Note to Self:

You Find What You Are Looking For

by | Jul 9, 2022 | Motivation

It is really easy to allow our negative nelly perspectives to take over during challenging times. When we focus on the hard, we see hard. When we focus on solutions & possibilities; we can usually find them! I am a pro at making things hard, but lately I have been playing this little mental game with myself where when things start to feel hard, overwhelming or too challenging I ask myself, “How could I make this easy?” Or “What if there was a super simple solve here?”

This is the case with practical work related tasks and matters of the heart where your emotion gets in the way of decision making. Virtually every single time I pause and ask myself these questions, the answers and solutions become obvious.

This mindset truth also shows up in how we interact in our relationships. If you always focus on the negative things or the behaviors you do not like in others… that is all you will ever see. I challenge to spend one day, NOT COMPLAINING about another (spouse, kid, co-worker, boss, nagging parent, nosy neighbor… you fill in the blank here).

Instead, focus only on the positive things and see how your attitude, mindset, and interactions change. Here are some examples:

My husband is so forgetful it makes me crazy! VS. My husband is the funniest, most forgiving, most thoughtful man!

I hate doing this report each month. It’s complicated, confusing, and frustrates me! VS. This report is the same every month. I bet if I gave it some thought or asked for help, I could find a way to streamline and automate part of it. I wonder if there is an easier way?

These kids have done nothing but whine all day! VS. These kinds have an insatiable spirit for play and connection!

My co-worker is so annoying, hits me up first thing every morning with a million questions! VS. My co-workers is the most friendly and bubbly personality, ready to tackle tasks each day with intention.

You get the idea… these were some quick, off the cuff examples but you can see… how we approach and perceive each scenario is sure to feed the energy of how the ongoing interactions, our mood, and our relationship or our ability to tackle a task/project will turn out.

So this is your friendly reminder… in most situations, YOU USUALLY FIND WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR… positive or negative, you really do have more power over things than you think… with your mindset!
